Ex-Kirinyaga Governor Ndathi To Reclaim Seat on TSP Ticket

Former Kirinyaga governor Joseph Ndathi will seek to reclaim the seat he lost in the 2017 General Election to Governor Anne Waiguru.

Ndathi will seek to unseat Waiguru on The Service Party (TSP) ticket.

“I have been cleared to run for the seat on TSP and my opponents should now brace themselves for a tough political battle,” he said.

The former governor stated that he was motivated to reclaim the seat he lost in 2017 to Ms Anne Waiguru.

In the 2017 party primaries, he claimed, Jubilee rigged the results in favor of the former Devolution CS.

“I’m ready to unseat Ms Waiguru so that I can serve the residents who are suffering due to lack of essential services,” he said.

If he is elected governor of Kirinyaga, he has promised to reinstate all 188 health workers who were fired due to alleged wrongdoing.

He chastised Waiguru’s administration for dismissing personnel who, he claimed, had committed no wrong.

“I hired highly qualified health workers but when Governor Waiguru took over power, she fired them. This is unacceptable,” he added.

He stated that the dismissed health workers lost their jobs for protesting against poor working conditions.

“I had employed professionals who were doing a good job but sadly they were sacked. I want to promise that I will reinstate them if elected,” he said.

He stated that the workers were in pain and that they should be given their jobs back without condition.

After going on strike in 2020, the employees were fired. They had claimed that the autonomous administration had failed to address their concerns.

Ndathi advised Kirinyaga locals to elect a well-educated and diligent governor who is concerned about the well-being of the community.

He will also face off with area Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici who has vowed to carry out an audit on the current administration.

If elected governor, she told the electorate she will demand a financial audit of the existing administration to verify that public funds were properly spent.

Ngirici also accused other leaders, whom she did not name, of acting as though they care about the people only to get seats.

“They now are pretending to stand by you because they want your votes. Why is it that they didn’t attend to their duties while you needed them the most?” she posed.

“You (Waiguru) gave promises to the people of Kirinyaga that you would improve their livelihoods by improving agriculture, health, education and other devolved functions,” she said.

“A time has come for you to present your scorecard to the people you serve. This is despite your desire to clinch a higher political position.”

Ngirici decamped from the Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) after the entry of the incumbent county chief.

She claimed the big players in the party bullied her and at some point asked her to shelve her ambitions in favour of the former CS.
