“Fake News” – Kalonzo Says As He Denies Pulling Out of Monday Demos

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has denied pulling out of Monday protests in the country’s capital of Nairobi.

Word on social media indicated that the former vice president was going to be a no-show at the planned demos in a bid to save his people from more suffering.

“I would like to distance myself from maandamano. My people have suffered enough under selfish individuals and I don’t want to see them fall into that trap again,” read an alleged statement from Kalonzo.

But Communications lead of the Kalonzo Command Centre Paloma Gatabaki dispelled the rumours saying the Wiper leader will be at the demos.

Ms Gatabaki said the reports were fake and that Kalonzo’s stance was clear.

“Our attention has been drawn to this image circulating in social media using Kenyans.co.ke frame. This is FAKE NEWS,” the tweet read.

“Kalonzo Musyoka’s stance is clear and unequivocal: Lower the cost of living and end electoral malpractice. No amount of intimidation will alter our stand.”

Speaking on Friday during an anti-government rally in Kiambu, Kalonzo said it was time the people of Kenya spoke up or perish.

He maintained that the Monday demos will be peaceful, as he urged Kenyans to show up in their numbers as the opposition seeks to liberate them.

“Our demonstrations will be peaceful and will not target anyone. We won’t relent until servers are opened,” Kalonzo said.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on his part said he will not be forced to call off the demos that are supposed to lead to the State House.

“We cannot be intimidated by William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua. I want to tell them that I fought for the second liberation in this country with the likes of Kenneth Matiba. I have been fighting for democracy and was put in detention for eight years when some of them were still breastfeeding,” said Raila.
