Former EALA MP Simon Mbugua Named Chair of State Agency

Former EALA MP Simon Mbugua is the new Chairperson of the Policyholders Compensation Fund. 

National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndungu made the appointment on Thursday.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 179 (4) (a) of the Insurance Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Simon Mbugua as Chairperson of the Policyholders Compensation Fund,” the gazette notice reads in part. 

Ndungu also appointed Tiberious Shikuku as a new member of the Policyholders Compensation Fund Board of Directors.

“Their appointments are for a period of three years with effect from May 19,” Ndungu said. 

The CS also revoked the appointments of Victor Pratt and Reuben Ndegwa as members of the Policyholders Compensation Fund Board of Directors. 

Mbugua served as the MP for Kamukunji between 2008 and 2011. He lost the seat in 2011 after ODM’s Ibrahim Ahmed successfully filed a petition challenging his election.

He served as an EALA MP from 2017 to 2022.

Last year, he sought to become Starehe MP on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

Unfortunately, he lost to Jubilee’s Amos Mwago who garnered 50,787 votes.
