George Natembeya Resigns to Focus on Race for Trans Nzoia Governor Seat

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has resigned.

On Wednesday, the former police boss said he is leaving the service to focus on his political career.

Natembeya who has served as Rift Valley Commissioner for two-and-a-half years, is seeking to unseat Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba.

“I am letting go of this police uniform and duties. I won’t be seen in it unless under extraordinary circumstances,” he said.

He told reporters that he will take this time to rest and seek the support of the Trans Nzoia people.

“I will take all my experience in the National Government to the County Government and help the people of Trans Nzoia.”

The former commissioner who has been in public service for more than two decades, said he would use his experience in leadership to transform the county.

He thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and the Interior PS Karanja Kibicho for the opportunity to serve and their support.

Natembeya, however, remained cagey on which party he will seek the governorship on.

Others eyeing the governor’s seat include a long-serving member of Khaemba’s cabinet, Finance Executive Boniface Wanyonyi.

Others are; Trans-Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo, former Agriculture Executive Andrew Wanyonyi, businessman Moses Khaoya and Philemon Samoei.

Also rumoured to be running for the county’s top seat are Abraham Singoei and Maurice Bisau, both of whom work in the office of Deputy President William Ruto.
