I Sacrificed Political Ambitions for Jubilee – Sabina Chege Laments Over Ouster Plan

Deputy minority whip in the National Assembly Sabina Chege has criticized former President Uhuru Kenyatta and leader of the opposition Raila Odinga over their criticism of her Jubilee Party membership.

She outlined the numerous political sacrifices she had made for Azimio and Jubilee during the general election in August 2022.

“I would like to look at Uhuru Kenyatta and Baba (Raila) in the face and ask, ‘Did Sabina sacrifice for this party?” she posed.

The nominated Jubilee MP stressed on Wednesday that she could have bagged a political seat of her choosing but that she had chosen to give up her aspirations for Azimio.

Sabina stated that she was prepared to meet with Uhuru and Raila to discuss her role in the party’s success during the August elections in the wake of recent attacks and attempts to de-whip her.

“So if something has happened, it is noble for our seniors to call us and have a chance to talk to us. I also want to appeal to our party leader, you are our leader and it is important that you call all of us together,” she said.

“It is important we give each other a chance, It is important we preserve this party, and pestering should stop.”

Sabina declined to participate in Azimio’s weekly demonstrations, saying Uhuru validated President William Ruto’s election victory by giving him the keys to the kingdom.

The politician continued by saying that she was prepared to talk to other Azimio leaders about resolving the problems through the parliamentary procedure.

Chege bemoaned the National Assembly’s de-whipping intentions as well, pointing out that they were politically motivated.

Her remarks were in response to an impromptu meeting between Uhuru and a Jeremiah Kioni-led faction to settle the disputes at the Jubilee Party headquarters in Kileleshwa.

The retired President challenged disgruntled members to exit the party quietly and in a peaceful manner.

“Anyone who wants to leave a party can join another. We have no quarrel with anyone. We want to guard our party, and those who do not want, are free to leave,” Uhuru stated.

“Let us maintain peace. Police officers have better things to do other than coming here to restore peace. We don’t have issues with anyone, our mandate is to maintain peace,” he stated.
