IEBC Submits All Election Forms Ahead of Supreme Court Hearing

The Supreme Court on Wednesday received all of the election paperwork from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

President William Ruto’s victory will be contested, and the forms 34A, 34B, and 34C that were used to announce the results of the polls on August 9 will be presented as evidence.

The electoral agency CEO Marjan Marjan and Commissioner Boya Molu were present during the submission.

Lawyer Wambua Kilonzo was also present.

The commission is required by law to deliver the materials 48 hours following the petitions submission.

On Monday evening, 50 goons attempted to attack IEBC personnel at a Nairobi Hotel.

The employees were at Sarova Panafric Hotel along Valley Road when the goons brandishing crude weapons tried to force their way into their meeting room.

The Commission stated that the attempt took place on Monday at about 8:30 p.m. and that the staff members were putting together responses to the petitions.

According to witnesses, the group appeared to have been informed by a reveller who had seen the officials there and thought their meeting was suspicious.

“An organized group of goons wielding crude weapons attempted to attack IEBC personnel preparing responses to Presidential election petitions at a premise within Nairobi. However, they were repulsed by Security,” the Commission said.

“The Commission condemns this act of hooliganism and intimidation, and calls upon the Inspector of Police (IG) to bring to an end this blatant abuse of the Rule of Law.”

Eight petitions challenging the results of the presidential election on August 9 were submitted on Monday.

During the pre-trial conference, it is likely that the petitions will be combined into a single petition.

Using irregularities and a mismatch in election results, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition and seven other petitioners are asking the apex court to invalidate Ruto’s victory.

The petitions have identified Wafula Chebukati, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, and Ruto as respondents.
