Jaoko Oburu Bows Out of Lang’ata MP Race

Jaoko Oburu, the son of EALA Member of Parliament Oburu Odinga, has withdrawn his candidacy for the Lang’ata Parliamentary seat.

On Thursday, the Siaya County CEC in Charge of Roads, Public Works, thanked those who were backing his candidacy.

He said that he had dropped out of the race and will instead concentrate on assisting his uncle, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in winning the presidency in the August 9 polls.

“I appreciate all the encouragement for me to throw my hat into the ring for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat. At this point, however, I’m focused on helping Baba (Raila Odinga) to become the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya,” he said in a statement.

He also urged young people around the country to vote and register to vote in significant numbers.

Jaoko, who is also the Chairman of YOTHA (Youth for The Handshake Alliance), had previously expressed interest in challenging incumbent Langata MP Nixon Korir of the UDA party.

Oscar Omoke, Silas Jakakimba, Fredrick Ndege alias Serikal, and comedian Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o are among those who have expressed interest in the position.

Korir alias Generali is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and will be seeking a second term for the seat that that will be highly contested.

In 2017, he received 41,086 votes, defeating Oscar Omoke of ODM, who received 39,593 votes.
