Jimi Wanjigi Named Safina Party’s Presidential Candidate

The National Executive Council of the Safina Party has announced that Jimi Wanjigi will be the party’s presidential candidate in the August 9 election.

This comes just a week after Wanjigi announced his departure from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The party’s Secretary-General, John Wamagata, said the party had received a written expression of interest from Wanjigi to run for the presidency on the Safina ticket.

This, he added, came after the party leader Paul Muite announced his decision not to run for president in writing.

“The party has not joined any coalition for the 2022 presidential election. However, the party leader can engage other like-minded parties and negotiate an alliance,” said Wamagata on Sunday.

His sentiments were echoed by the party chairman, Duncan Nyale.

“We are going all the way to the ballot as Safina. Mr Wanjigi will be officially unveiled as the presidential candidate on 21st March during a National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Bomas of Kenya,” he elucidated.

The Safina delegates are anticipated to adopt the council’s decision to replace the party’s colors and logo.

A member of the council, Mr Mac Botongore Nicholas, urged Kenyans interested in running for various positions to join the party and present themselves as candidates.

“We have reduced the nomination fee by half for the youth and people with disabilities to make it easy for them to join and contest,” he said.

On Wednesday, Wanjigi joined Muite’s party on which he will run for the country’s top seat.

He indicated that he will present his candidacy papers at the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) on March 21.

“Our path for Democracy will not be stopped. Our Dream for the Economic Liberation of Kenyans is more alive than ever & we will achieve that in the Safina Party. The Ark has left the dock & our destination is the Presidency of this great Republic,” said Wanjigi, adding that he hopes to achieve his goals with the help of his new found party.
