Kabando wa Kabando will vie for the Nyeri senator seat during this year’s general elections.
The former assistant minister said he reached the decision following wide consultations with the electorate.
“Upon wide consultations, urgings, online & grassroots surveys and my spirit to so serve, I offer myself to be Senator of the Great County of NYERI,” said Kabando via Twitter.
The former SONU chair said his team will communicate details about his campaign in three weeks.
“#KKCampaign will communicate details of this noble venture in 3 weeks. I pledge Clean Decent Issues Campaign,” he added.
The Nyeri senate seat is currently being held by Ephraim Maina who is yet to declare his bid.
Kabando is the immediate former MP for Mukurweini. He was beaten by Anthony Gathiaka Kiai of Jubilee Party.
At the time, Kabando who was running as an independent candidate garnered 10,799 votes while Mr Kiai polled 24,535 votes.
A Nairobi businessman Kinaniri Waroe got 6,643 votes to settle for the third position.
Kabando was seeking to serve for the third term in the National Assembly as an independent candidate after losing in the Jubilee nominations to Kiai.
