Kalonzo Set to Rejoin Azimio Today Ahead of Meeting with IEBC

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed his plan to rejoin Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party at a funeral in the Machakos county yesterday, as he conveyed a condolence message from Raila Odinga.

Kalonzo will apparently attend an Azimio rally later today at the Vision Ground in Mukuru kwa Njenga, Nairobi County.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Wiper party leader said he will soon announce his final stand.

“I shall declare my stand on the presidency. This time round I shall make the final decision. I shall not spare anything. It will be a scorched earth policy so that we must save this nation,” he said.

He was addressing mourners attending the funeral of Mzee Joseph Katithi at Kyawango village in the company of Senators Agnes Kavindu (Machakos) and Enoch Wambua (Kitui).

He read tributes from President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mr Odinga, Martha Karua and Kanu chairman Gideon Moi.

Mr Kenyatta, Mr Odinga, Mr Moi and Mr Musyoka sit in the 12-member Azimio Council, the coalition’s highest decision making organ.

“I should have been here earlier but I first attended the Madaraka Day celebrations where I was sitting next to Martha Karua. She does not know this place but has asked me to deliver her tributes. President Kenyatta also sent his tributes. And as I was walking out, my brother Raila saw me; he also sent his greetings. Gideon Moi has also sent his greetings,” he said.

He urged the electorate to vote for Wiper candidates only so as to solidify his place in the next administaration.

The former vice president accused Deputy President William Ruto’s allies of working for individuals who “despise” the community.

“I had said that I would be silent for a while. I have decided to speak today in honour of the departed. Although I have no problem with my brothers and sisters in the Kamba community, they have been stumbling blocks in my efforts to push for our interests,” he said.

“If Kalonzo was not a Kamba, he would have become the President already. We have been despised for many years as a community but that is not my agenda today,” he said.

He bemoaned the country’s economic woes as a result of a lengthy drought. “This election takes place at a time when the country is experiencing hunger and excessive living costs. We were, and continue to be, prepared to restore the economy. What we will not do is condone crooks,” he stated.

He is being pressured by his allies to join Mr Odinga’s side. His statement will come before of his meeting with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, where he will be cleared to run for president.

Last month, Kalonzo bolted out of Azimio after Odinga named Karua as his running mate and appointing him the Chief Minister should they win the election.

In defiance, he unveiled his own running mate, Andrew Sunkuli, on the same day as the ODM leader.

Last week, the IEBC said Kalonzo did not submit the prerequisite documents and gave him until today.
