Kanini Kega Protests Removal of Jubilee Senators from House Committees

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega has expressed displeasure within the removal of five Jubilee senators from select committees.

In a letter to Speaker Amason Kingi, the former Kieni MP said the Senate Standing Order 198(2) mandates the Business Committee to nominate members to serve in select committees so that they can discharge their duties.

“Therefore, the removal of the senators is unprocedural and denies their constituents fair representation,” he said.

“We seek your indulgence and implore your good office to suspend their removal.”

Kega who signed off as the acting Jubilee secretary general said it had come to his attention that senators Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo), Abdulkadir Haji (Garissa), Margaret Kamar (Nominated), James Lomenen (Jubilee), and Joseph Githuku (Lamu) have been de-whipped from various select committees.

Minority whip Ledama Olekina on Wednesday notified Speaker Kingi of changes in various committees.

The Narok senator dewhipped senator Haji from the Health, and National security and Foreign Relations committees.

Turkana’s Lomenen was expelled from committees on Energy, and Powers and Privileges committees while his Lamu counterpart, Gituki was axed from the Education, National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations committees.
