Karen Residence Doesn’t Need Renovating – DP Ruto Tells Gov’t Over Eviction Plot

The leaders of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance chastised the government on Tuesday for attempting to evict Deputy President William Ruto from his official Karen residence in Nairobi.

This comes only hours after People Daily alleged a plan to evict Ruto was in the works in the name of refurbishing the office for Kenya’s future deputy president.

According to the daily, allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta said the State Department of Public Works is ready to issue a vacate notice to Ruto and his family.

The leaders who spoke at the Racecourse Hotel criticized the government for contemplating such things at a time when the country is experiencing numerous issues including fuel shortage and drought.

Ruto stated that there was no need to prioritize renovations at this time because the next vice president will come from the Kenya Kwanza team.

“I want to tell the good people who want to assist us with a renovation that for Kenya Kwanza, renovating the residence of the deputy president is not a priority. The priority is to sort out the hunger of the 3 million Kenyans who today are sleeping hungry,” Ruto said.

The DP chastised a group of persons he accused of being drunk with power despite the fact that Kenyans are starving.

“It is only inhuman if anybody thinks that while we have 3 million Kenyans facing starvation, the priority is to renovate the office of the deputy president,” he added.

Uhuru’s men told the daily that the Jubilee administration, which Ruto helped build in 2013 and 2017, has had enough of his criticism and that it was time for him to leave Karen and forsake the privileges and benefits that come with his job.

According to DP’s detractors, he should resign from government and assume full responsibility as opposition leader.

“There are individuals in this country who are trying to get mileage out of small crises that we have thinking they are not part of the Government when they are actually at the helm earning salaries and enjoying privileges,” Senate Deputy Main the Senate Senator Fatuma Dullo said.

People (Ruto and his friends) should not criminalize or accuse the Jubilee administration of illegally acquiring political mileage, Dullo added.

In 2020, the DP was denied access to his official residence in Mombasa.

“His personal clothes and other belongings had already been put in various rooms. It is essentially a home and, therefore, his personal effects were in place that morning. Around 4 pm, a call came from a senior government official to the government employees there that all the DP’s personal effects should be removed. It was a shocker,” a source told the Nation.

Ruto was forced to look for accommodation at English Point Marina in Nyali, where he spent the night. He came back to Nairobi the following day.
