Uproar As Moses Kuria Threatens to Fire Gov’t Officials for Advertising with Nation

Trade CS Moses Kuria has threatened to stop using Nation Media Group (NMG) for government PR and advertising due to the publication’s ongoing criticism of the government.

Speaking during the Akorino Annual Convention in Embu County on Sunday, the CS demanded the media outlet clarify if it was acting as a watchdog or the opposition.

He also issued a warning to the managers of government entities using NMG for advertising to stop doing so or risk losing their jobs.

Kuria claimed that the Kenya Kwanza administration could no longer continue to advertise with the media house.

“You need to decide if you are a newspaper, broadcasting house, a media station or an opposition party,” he said.

“I have stated that starting tomorrow if I see any government agency placing adverts in Nation Media, the person responsible will be fired.”

The CS did not stop the attack on the media house there, he took it to social media where he wrote unprintable words.

He then said the Aga Khan-owned media house would still be able to advertise auctioneers and obituaries.

“…You can still advertise auctioneers and funeral announcements. We will not stop those,” he tweeted.

Prior to the former Gatundu South MP’s attack, Nation had published an exposé in which it claimed the Ministries of Trade and Agriculture plundered more than Ksh6 billion in an edible oils scandal.

Now, KoT are up in arms demanding for Kuria’s resignation or firing by President William Ruto.

Others have thanked the media house for exposing graft within government agencies.
