Mudavadi Could Not Fund Presidential Campaign – MP Agoi on Why He Teamed up with DP Ruto

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi formed an alliance with Deputy President William Ruto since he did not have the money to conduct a presidential campaign, Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi has claimed.

According to Agoi, Mudavadi has been out of the political game for a long time and could not have fought for the top job against Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, who are both using government funds.

“Deputy President William Ruto has an allocation in his office that can help him run his presidential campaign. Raila is now leaning towards President Uhuru Kenyatta, but Mudavadi has nowhere,” Agoi said.

“So there was no way Mudavadi could have managed to face off these two people on the ballot with government resources.”

Agoi, speaking in Emuhaya on Tuesday, said the ANC leader joined the DP after recognizing he could not generate enough funds to support his presidential campaign.

The legislator, on the other hand, indicated that at the moment, the only practical alternative for Mr Mudavadi and his team was to negotiate an agreement with the Deputy President and form a coalition to ensure that they had a say in the next government.

“Those who defected from ANC cannot be trusted. They did it because of their personal selfish interests,” said the Sabatia MP.

Mudavadi, speaking at a previous gathering in Vihiga, blasted poverty in the Western region, claiming that it was the primary cause for the region’s inability to produce a president.

“Presidential campaigns are too expensive. We must be financially fit to support our presidential candidate in order to clinch that seat,” Mudavadi said.

“In Mt Kenya region people fund, but here we can’t fund because of the high rate of poverty we always look at what that presidential candidate will give me,” he added.

The collapse of Mumias Sugar Factory, Pan Paper, and Nzoia Sugar Factory, according to Mudavadi, were the main causes of poverty in the region.

After Raila failed to honor the 2017 Nasa pact, the ANC head declared they had no choice than to work with Ruto.

“We had agreed with Raila to support Mudavadi in the 2022 general election, but he instead decided to dissolve Nasa as a way to evade the deal,” Agoi said.

Despite assisting ODM in the election of Governor Wilber Ottichilo, the lawmaker claimed Raila had ignored Vihiga as a whole.

“If Raila was a true friend, he could have shared the goodies he received from the handshake deal,” he said.

After the August 9 elections, people who left the ANC should expect to be in the political cold, said the lawmaker.
