Presidential Hopeful Mwaure Claims Life in Danger After Visit by “Strange” Persons

Presidential candidate for the Agano Party David Mwaure has asserted once more that his safety is in jeopardy.

The party has written to the Interior CS, Inspector of Police, and other security stakeholders to increase the party leader’s security.

According to the letter, two unidentified people allegedly attempted to attack Mwaure last Friday.

“Two persons turned up at the Secretariat of our presidential candidate to see Mwaure stating that they were from Garissa,” the letter signed by Acting Secretary general Josiah Nyamu reads in part.

Mr Nyamu explained that the two claimed they wanted to be Mwaure’s agents in Garissa.

“On being asked how they knew Mwaure they said they were referred by a Mr Mohammed, on further questioning they were not ready to give more details,” Nyamu said.

Copies of the IDs presented at the Party offices were attached.

Further investigations, he added, revealed that the two people had made a strange phone call.

“They were followed by our candidate’s security discreetly and they were heard frantically talking to someone and saying they were not allowed to see Mwaure,” he continued.

Late last month, the presidential hopeful charged at Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai for renting out police cars intended for him.

Mwaure claimed that despite sending a demand letter to the police, he had not yet received the police cars assigned to presidential candidates.

He asked that the police disclose information about the vehicles and security escorts provided to each candidate in order to promote transparency.

Mwaure asserted that all of the four presidential candidates — Deputy President William Ruto, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and George Wajackoyah of the Roots party — should be treated equally.

“According to my inquiries, I have found out as provided for in law and approved in the budget, that, there are cars, escorts, bodyguards I am entitled to but the office of Inspector General is sitting on them and either making money out of them or they have given them to those who are state projects or can pay them,” he said in a statement.

“I am not asking for special treatment or anything that will increase the cost of living. I am asking for my rights.”

He further requested that the police give the two cops who were assigned to him off days, claiming that they had not had any rest in nearly three weeks.

“I also want the two bodyguards I have to be getting at least one day off per week. For about three weeks they have not had a day off. If I do not get all that the others have, I will mention names and go to court,” he added.

Mwaure had also demanded for more security on grounds that his agenda to fight graft put him in harms way.

“Our presidential candidate is even naming names. They are going for the big fish. Corruption fights back,” said the party.

“Our presidential candidate does not plan to relent on this main agenda; fight and eradicate corruption. He needs very critical and enhanced security.”
