Police Hunting for 2,000 Northlands Farm Intruders – CS Kindiki

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki says police are hunting for at least 2,000 intruders who invaded Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands Farm.

Northlands City was invaded on Monday during anti-government protests.

According to the Nation, the vandals were hired by two members of parliament, a former governor and a Kiambu musician.

The goons made away with sheep, cut down trees and set a section of the 11,000 acre farm on fire.

CS Kindiki explained that the police showed up at the scene of crime almost 24 hours later due to the ongoing protests.

Weighing in on the vandalism at Raila Odinga’s East Africa Spectre company, the CS said that the authorities were able to react quickly enough to stop greater damages.

To restore reason to the country’s security, he said he would be issuing policy directives to the Inspector General of the National Police Service. He added that the directives would go into effect on March 31.

The directives will include making sure that the police are in charge of overseeing public safety during demonstrations.

“All streets, estates and neighbourhoods in Nairobi, Kisumu and any other place where there are reasonable grounds to believe that violent protests may erupt in the future be provided with round-the-clock security to ensure that law-abiding persons go about their activities without intimidation, threats or disruption of their daily activities,” the CS said.

Further, the CS cautioned Kenyans against participating in violent demos saying the police would prevent them at “all costs.”

“No more violent protests shall be allowed anywhere in Kenya. With or without notices, demonstrations and protests of any type which injure people, security officers, businesses and property shall be prevented at all costs,” stated CS Kindiki.

“The unfolding situation portends grave danger to the rule of law and the stability of our country. The violence, looting, destruction of public amenities, disruption of daily activities and invasion of private property portend real and imminent danger of our country sliding into irretrievable anarchy. These criminal acts must cease.”

Meanwhile, the opposition leader is set to lead protests on Thursday.
