Presidential Hopeful Mwaure Accuses IG Mutyambai of Renting Out Escort Cars Meant for Him

David Waihiga Mwaure, a presidential candidate for the Agano Party, has charged at Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai for renting out police cars were intended for him.

Mwaure claimed that despite sending a demand letter to the police, he had not yet received the police cars assigned to presidential candidates.

The presidential candidate also urged that the police disclose information about the vehicles and security escorts provided to each candidate in order to promote transparency.

Mwaure claimed that all of the four presidential candidates — Deputy President William Ruto, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and George Wajackoyah of the Roots party — should be treated equally.

“According to my inquiries, I have found out as provided for in law and approved in the budget, that, there are cars, escorts, bodyguards I am entitled to but the office of Inspector General is sitting on them and either making money out of them or they have given them to those who are state projects or can pay them,” he said in a statement.

“I am not asking for special treatment or anything that will increase the cost of living. I am asking for my rights.”

He further requested that the police give the two cops who were assigned to him off days, claiming that they had not had any downtime in nearly three weeks.

“I also want the two bodyguards I have to be getting at least one day off per week. For about three weeks they have not had a day off. If I do not get all that the others have, I will mention names and go to court,” he added.

Mwaure also requested that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) look into the origins of the billions of dollars that Ruto and Raila were spending on their campaigns despite the current economic times.

“They should investigate and find out where all the Billions that have been and are being used by the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio Coalitions have come from,” he said.

“At a time when Kenyans are facing dire economic hardships, Kenyans need to be told if this is money from various scandals that took place when my competitors were and have been in Government or whether this is part of the Ksh15 trillion, being wealth of Kenyans illegally stashed abroad, or worse still this is money from drug barons and interest groups that will later capture Kenya for payback.”

Earlier on in the week, the presidential hopeful demanded for more security because of their strategy to fight corruption.

“Our presidential candidate is even naming names. They are going for the big fish. Corruption fights back,” the letter signed by Acting Secretary General Josiah Nyamu read in part.

The party questioned the rules for providing security to presidential candidates and their deputy presidential running mates.

“Are these provided for in the law? If so, can we have them but not in the bravado we see with our competitors,” the letter continued.

They questioned whether tax payers money was being used to pay for the security provided and why other candidates had security, police cars, escort cars, and helicopters.

“Was it approved by the parliament? Do Kenya Revenue Authority and other government agencies know about these (helicopters and snipers),” it added.

“Our presidential candidate does not plan to relent on this main agenda; fight and eradicate corruption. He needs very critical and enhanced security.”
