ODM party leader Raila Odinga on Saturday visited his in-laws in Kandara, Murang’a county.

The former prime minister visited the family of his son, Raila Odinga Junior’s wife, Yvonne Wambui Odinga.

Junior married Wambui on September 3, 2011 at an exquisite ceremony held at the Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club in Nairobi.

Junior shared some of the moments from the visit on Twitter saying: “When a man marries a girl from a family.. he becomes a son . He is a son of Murang’a because he has married from there.. I am a son of Muranga and Baba is the muthoniwa.”

The former prime minister was received by Wambui’s mother Susan Gachukia and her grandparents Daniel Gachukia, 93, and Eddah Gachukia, 85.

The Gachukias who are the founders of Riara Group of Schools and the Riara University, said they were happy to host the AU envoy who is eyeing the presidency for the fifth time.

Raila was accompanied by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Junior and Wambui welcomed their first child on August 24, 2021 after many years of struggling with infertility.

“I hope she (Yvonne) will allow me to disclose this. We had been married for a long time and we weren’t able to get a child in the very first years. We struggled for a very long time for about four, five years and eventually God blessed us with our firstborn a son,” shared Junior.

“Yvonne and I were so okay not being able to conceive for those years, but the frustrations became unbearable because of the pressure from outside. I also tried so hard not to subject Yvonne to more pressure because of the situation.”
