Ruto Asks President Uhuru For Forgiveness During Prayer Meeting

Deputy President William Ruto asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to forgive him on Thursday.

Ruto admitted he had fallen short of his boss’s expectations during the National Prayer Breakfast held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, but added he had forgiven the president because they are all humans.

“As you head to retirement, it is my prayer that God gives you every aspiration of your heart and makes it possible for you to enjoy the legacy you have built. As a DP, I may have fallen short of my boss’s expectations and I ask for forgiveness,” Ruto said.

“I have also been hurt by many people and on this prayer breakfast, I forgive everybody, I want us to go into this election free of the debt of hurt.”

Uhuru, on his part, stated that when his tenure ends in August, he want to resign amicably, as requested by DP William Ruto.

“Even as we engage in the upcoming context, we know that national building is passed from generation to generation, and pass baton unbroken and I expect to do just that,” he said.

President Uhuru also expressed his hope that the spirit of unity that was evident during the occasion will continue beyond the elections.

“The tempo of our politics is beating at an increasing note day by day. I hope the spirit of togetherness endures,” he said.

“Mine is to wish you all peace, and wish that we will end up much more united and stronger after this election than ever before.

“…And to wish each and every person the best of luck knowing that there would be only one winner… Our prayer is that we shall accept and move forward and live to fight another day.

“I do hope the prayers of Ruto come true. I am looking forward to a lot of peace and enjoyment in the years to come.”

The DP also broke protocol and invited Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party presidential running mate Martha Karua to address the attendees.

“Before I conclude my remarks, in the absence of my brother Raila Odinga, who is my main competitor in this election, I’m going to ask my sister Martha Karua… Allow me to break protocol so that she can come and make some few remarks,” Ruto said.

Karua urged the leaders present to include all of the messages of peace discussed at the meeting into their speeches.

She also expressed her desire for Kenya to have a peaceful election process in August.

“Prayers without action is not real. How I pray that our prayers are matched by our actions. If we do that we’ll definitely have peaceful elections, a peaceful transition and a nation that stands together. God bless Kenya and thank you William for inviting me,” Karua stated.

Following Karua’s statements, the Deputy President apologized for violating protocol.

He also expressed regret for ambushing the deputy presidential candidate Azimio la Umoja, claiming she had presented herself properly.

“Thank you Martha even if I ambushed you. You have given a good account of yourself and sorry the people of protocol if I have messed up in any way. I’m sorry.”
