Ruto Plotting to Abolish Presidential Term Limit – Raila

President William Ruto’s administration in Kenya is plotting to abolish the presidential term limit, Azimio leader Raila Odinga has alleged.

The leader of the opposition claimed on Monday that the Kenya Kwanza regime is seeking a super majority in Parliament so as to amend the Constitution.

The law dictates that a president may hold office for a maximum of two terms of five years each.

According to Raila, Kenya Kwanza’s strategy includes coercively bringing the Jubilee party into the coalition to increase its numerical advantage in the National Assembly.

“The end game by Kenya Kwanza in its schemes against Jubilee is to give itself a super-majority in Parliament that will enable them to amend the constitution towards desired goals including the possible removal of term limits,” Raila said.

“I urge you not to give up on that regime governed by empathy for citizens, honesty and accountability as opposed to the lies Kenya Kwanza sold and continues to sell.”

The country’s multiparty democracy will be seriously threatened, Raila said, should the plans to subdue Jubilee be successful.

“Accountability will be severely compromised. Bad manners and barbaric leadership will be cemented in a huge chunk of our society,” said the former prime minister.

The head of the opposition charged that the government intends to revert Kenya into a one-party state, as it was under the late president Daniel Moi.

“In this, the regime is walking on a well-trodden path, Kenya Kwanza is working on an arrangement similar to that of 1964 that saw Kaddu walk across the aisle and join Kanu without its members of Parliament having to seek a fresh mandate.”
