Ruto Tears into Raila Over Alleged Visit by Ex-IEBC Officials

President William Ruto has reacted to ODM leader Raila Odinga’s claims that three former Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) commissioners visited him during the elections.

The head of state was speaking in Mombasa during Africa Prosecutors’ Association Conference.

The President wondered why the opposition leader was bringing the information to light, five months after the August polls.

According to Dr Ruto the timing was suspect as he questioned how the former electoral agency officials ended up at his home.

“I heard yesterday a politician telling this story that IEBC officials visited him. He is telling the story five months after the act. My question is, how did you (Raila) end up inviting the officials to your house?” Dr Ruto posed.

The President also questioned why the former prime minister failed to reveal the reason for the visit.

“This politician also did not tell us why these commissioners visited him. So what was he telling us then?”

Raila told thousands who thronged Jacaranda Grounds on Sunday that former IEBC officials; Wafula Chebukati, Abdi Guliye and Moya Bolu, were at his home, threatening to share photo evidence.

“Chebukati stated that there were people who wanted to bribe him, Guliye and Molu. I want to ask them why did they visit Baba’s home?” he posed.

“What did they borrow from me? They should know I have their pictures and if they play with me, I will unveil them.”

Dr Ruto also found it astonishing that the opposition leader neglected to present the supporting evidence before the IEBC tribunal and the Supreme Court.

“You had the opportunity to present your case before the court and tribunal but you didn’t. But instead, you choose to do it in a rally five months down the line,” added the head of state.

The former presidential contender further roped in National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Justice Aggrey Muchelule into the electoral fraud claims.

He alleged that the duo along with Chebukati are in-laws.

“Mr Chebukati and Muchelule are in-laws. Their  wives are sisters and Wetang’ula’s wife too) …Wetang’ula, Chebukati and Muchelule are brothers in-law,” he said.

“One stole elections, another is a Judge and the other is National Assembly speaker.”
