Seek Redress Before Resuming Protests – Ruto Tells Raila

President William Ruto urged the opposition to seek a resolution to their differences through dialogue ahead of the resumption of weekly anti-government protests.

The Head of State declared during the Embakasi Grain Bulk Handlers Limited launch that he was ready to cooperate with the opposition to advance the welfare of the nation.

He noted that the constitution provides ample channels for addressing the concerns made by the former prime minister Raila Odinga.

Dr Ruto emphasized that the protests only affected people’s livelihoods and businesses.

“I want to encourage our friends in the opposition to work with us in building the country. For any of the issues they have to raise, the constitution robustly provides for us to engage in a constructive manner without the necessity of violent confrontations and unnecessary disruptions of business,” said the President on Friday.

“If you organise demonstrations and the businesses of Kenyans go up in flames, you have destroyed their lives. We should know what our actions amount to.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, for his part, criticized the opposition for being untruthful in their protests and demands.

He mentioned the high expense of living, which the Ruto government was effectively addressing.

“They said that they were protesting because of the price of unga. Now let them look for another reason to go to the streets. That reason does not exist. Those who know them, know that it was just an excuse,” said Gachagua.

“The country is safe and secure. They are welcome to make noise and go home. Let them not destroy public and private property.”

The opposition is set to resume protests on May 2 after suspending bipartisan talks.

The teams could not agree on the involvement of MPs Adan Keynan and David Pkosing.
