Stop Dismantling the Opposition – Raila Tells Ruto

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has urged President William Ruto to uphold multiparty democracy if he wants to put an end to the weekly demonstrations.

It is the most recent of his demands that he made to the head of state in anticipation of any “serious negotiations.”

The opposition honcho told the BBC that the head of state was “dismembering the opposition”.

“Mr Ruto must stop looking at the Opposition in a derogative manner. He has invaded the opposition. We as Azimio la Umoja One Kenya had the majority of members of the National Assembly, we had the majority of members of the county assembly, also senators and governors,” Raila said.

“But as soon as he was declared the winner, he embarked on the process of basically dismembering the opposition. People who were elected on Azimio’s ticket are now voting with Mr Ruto.”

Raila also wants the government to open IEBC servers, stop the recruitment of new commissioners and lower the cost of living.

But President Ruto has maintained that he will only dialogue with leaders as long as it is within the confines of the law.

Speaking in Germany, the head of state said impunity would not be tolerated and all Kenyans must submit to the rule of law.

“That is what makes us equal. Nobody should trample on the rights of others,” said Dr Ruto.

Monday’s anti-government protests turned violent leaving one dead and several nursing injuries.

Pro-government protesters invaded retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands Farm while others vandalized Raila’s Spectre EA gas plant.

This Raila said, was the beginning of a class war.
