UDA Coast Aspirants Threaten to Exit Party Over Attacks

Members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) from Mombasa county have threatened to exit the party following attacks on Saturday.

UDA Coast Region coordinator Mohamed Tenge and several other party supporters were attacked by unknown persons as they escorted their party leader to a meeting.

Tenge, who sustained grave injuries claimed he was accosted by a mob brandishing crude weapons. He has since been treated at a local hospital.

“The chaos was planned. It is a plot to push some politicians out of UDA,” said Tenge. “It is such a pity that those of us who have used our resources to popularize the party in Mombasa and the region are being mistreated by people who have hijacked it for their selfish political gains.”

Also attacked was Dr Argawal Sanjeev who is eyeing the Mombasa governorship on a UDA ticket.

Reports indicate that the DP held a crisis meeting earlier today before heading to Tana River county. He is said to have castigated the warring parties.

“The DP ironed out the differences among some politicians today before he went to Tana River county. The particular politicians including Mr Tenge were called to the meeting and all is well,” said the party’s National Organizing Secretary Karisa Nzai.

Some UDA supporters and aspirants have threatened to walk out of Dr Ruto’s party following fears that it preferred certain aspirants even before nominations.

Last month, Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici threatened to leave the party after area Governor Anne Waiguru defected from Jubilee.

She claimed that the party which she helped build had openly shown its support for her competitor.

“Only tricksters exist in the world of politics, loyalty is a mirage and ambiguous. I don’t even want to remember how much I have used to build the UDA party in Kirinyaga from scratch, but I’m young in politics and still learning,” she told The Standard.
