Uhuru Convenes Special Jubilee Delegates Meeting Amid Squabbles

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has called a Special National Delegates Conference on May 22.

In a notice published in a local daily and shared on the party’s social media, the party will hold the meeting at the Bomas of Kenya.

The party is expected to review, formulate and approve party policies; receive a status report from the National Executive Committee and consider and approve any other matters.

“Pursuant to articles 8.1 and 10.1 of the Jubilee Party Constitution, notice is hereby issued for Special National Delegates Convention to be held on the 22 of May 2023,” the notice read.

The conference follows wrangles between EALA MP Kanini Kega and Jeremiah Kioni. The duo claim to be the legitimate party secretary general.

The infighting on Wednesday culminated into chaos witnessed at the party headquarters in Kileleshwa. Two groups allied with the duo got into a fight prompting Uhuru’s intervention.

The former head of state said there was no need to air their dirty laundry and urged warring groups to resolve matters internally.

“We have our mechanisms as a political party with which to solve our problems and we shall solve and we shall have our meetings and the party’s membership will decide the party’s future,” he said.

“We don’t need to be governed or be pushed by police. We will peacefully make our decisions because we are peaceful people who wish to live in a peaceful country.”
