President Uhuru Kenyatta has told off critics of ongoing renovations at Uhuru Park.
The President said the ongoing works were meant to give the city a facelift.
Speculations were rife that the park had been grabbed by private developers with the aid of the State.
Read:
“Wale ambao walikuwa wanasema tumegrab Uhuru Park and Central Park wacha waone ile kazi inaendelea hapa,” said the head of state.
He added: “All this is to better the lives of Kenyans so that people can be proud of Nairobi as their city and Kenya and their country. And that is my only interest.”
The park was closed in September after the Nairobi County Assembly passed a motion compelling the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) to move in and fence the iconic park.

On December 8, however, Justice Edward Wabwoto suspended the renovations following a suit filed by Communist Party of Kenya.
The judge found that the exercise was commissioned without authority and approval of the National Environment Management Authority (Nema).
