Uhuru’s Support Cost Raila the Presidency – Boniface Mwangi

Activist Boniface Mwangi says retired President Uhuru Kenyatta was a let down during the August 9 elections.

Speaking to the Social Newsroom, Mwangi who was in the same camp as the former President, said the latter’s support cost Raila Odinga the election.

According to the “People’s Watchman”, Uhuru’s endorsement made Raila compete as the incumbent.

“Let’s talk about one traitor, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta let the whole team down. He was not supposed to endorse us.  We ended up running as the incumbent but we were not the incumbent we were actually the opposition,” he said.

Mwangi asserted that every time the former head of state publicly supported the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party flagbearer, their side suffered.

“Every time Uhuru spoke he damaged our campaign team, every time he opened his mouth we suffered. I begged and even tweeted about it and said, tell Uhuru to shut up and he couldn’t shut up,” he told Mark Masai.

Mwangi said that he was skeptical about Uhuru especially because he had betrayed his then deputy, William Ruto.

Uhuru had promised to back Ruto’s candidacy once he was done with his 10-years in office.

“I asked friends and people in the Azimio Campaign team, how do you trust someone who has betrayed his deputy and they have worked together for over ten years,” Mwangi said.

The activist claimed that it was because of Uhuru that Dr Ruto got sympathy votes.

After the polls, Uhuru said he accepted the outcome but would recognize the former prime minister as his leader.

“I will hand over power smiling because it is constitutional. Aluta continua but I will leave knowing Raila is my leader,” said Kenya’s fourth president in September 2022.
